HOW TO WEAR A POCKET SQUARE
Ah, pocket squares... the cherry on top of your suit game
It's a creative way to flash a hint of color, or that subtle style move that aces your outfit. Whether you wear a tie or not, you should always wear a pocket square even when rocking that business casual.
I prefer to rock the pocket square with a semi-neat, squared off look. I am not a fan of the ones that shoot out of the suit like a flame, unless you're a magician of course. Nor do I care for the starched picket fence look. But hey, to each his own (demise). I keep my pocket squares showing a quarter-inch or half-inch. Anything more is uncivilized. Anything less is invisible. Pocket squares are meant to top off your suit game, so don't make it the center of attention.
I don't get fired up for this:
Here's a tip... don't do this (expression included):
And whatever you do, please do not get matching pocket square + tie sets. That's just weak... you aren't even trying at that point and it's just a sorry excuse for a boring outfit. And by boring I mean terrible. Rather, pull it off in style by showing some simple thought and creativity. This is a chance to show some personality, so take advantage! If you have a set already (it's okay, we're all still learning), then break up the set by wearing each item on different occasions.
Instead of this combo:
Try breaking them up like these:
See how clean this is?
Don't just take my word for it (although you could). Here's a celebrity example of how awesome a clean pocket square looks. Reminiscent of a certain 007, isn't it? Or a certain someone in the pictures above...?
David Beckham is back at it again with the white pocket square.
